Dubrovnik's medieval old town and 2 km of intact city walls became King's Landing. Walking the walls (the city's main attraction even without GoT) takes 1.5–2 hours. Fort Lovrijenac doubled as the Red Keep.

Best time: May–June or September–October (avoid cruise crowds in July/August)How to visit: Fly into Dubrovnik. Book the walls early morning or late afternoon. Many GoT-themed walking tours run daily.

Qarth & The King's Garden

Lokrum is a 10-minute ferry from Dubrovnik old harbour and houses a replica Iron Throne you can sit on. Trsteno Arboretum, 30 minutes up the coast, is the oldest arboretum in this part of Europe and was the Red Keep gardens.

Best time: April–OctoberHow to visit: Lokrum ferry runs every 30 min in season. Trsteno is reachable by local bus from Dubrovnik.

The Kingsroad & Iron Islands

The tunnel of 18th-century beech trees known as the Dark Hedges is the Kingsroad. Ballintoy Harbour on the Causeway Coast became Lordsport on the Iron Islands. Both are 1.5 hours from Belfast.

Best time: May–September (long daylight, mild weather)How to visit: Rent a car in Belfast and do a Causeway Coast loop. The Giant's Causeway is on the same route.

Beyond the Wall

The rift valley of Þingvellir National Park (also where Iceland's parliament was founded in 930 AD) and the black-sand beaches at Vík and Reynisfjara became the lands beyond the Wall. Both are accessible year-round.

Best time: June–August for hiking; February–March for snowy GoT lookHow to visit: Þingvellir is on the Golden Circle day-trip from Reykjavík. Vík is a 2.5-hour drive along the south coast.

Dragonstone & The Tower of Joy

Itzurun Beach Zumaia & Castillo de Zafra, Spain

The dramatic flysch cliffs at Itzurun Beach in Basque Country became the steps Daenerys climbs to Dragonstone. Castillo de Zafra, a lonely 12th-century castle on a rock in Guadalajara province, was the Tower of Joy.

Best time: May–SeptemberHow to visit: Zumaia is 30 minutes from San Sebastián. Castillo de Zafra is a 2-hour drive from Madrid — opening hours are limited, check ahead.
